| Kindergarten Curriculum | Themes/Units A variety of topics are covered during this part of our curriculum. The areas of study include seasons and times of the year as they relate to God's creation and order of our world. Science, history, and current events will be discussed with projects to reinforce their learning. Several areas include animals, Children Around the World, creation, and holidays. This always proves to be a favorite part of their day. |
Math Our kindergarteners have the fortunate experience to begin their grammar years using the Saxon Math program. It is a systematic and progressive method of teaching the children the proper formation of numbers, adding and subtracting, counting money, teaching time to the hour and half hour, sequencing and counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's. The children develop the ability to do mental computation as well. The program provides many hands on activities and manipulatives. All students will benefit from this excellent program. | Phonics, Writing, and Reading We use the Riggs Comprehensive Program to teach reading and writing. The program is very specific, but it truly lays a strong foundation for developing very capable readers and writers. Kindergarteners will be introduced to the letters, sounds and phonograms necessary to move the children into the proper formation of letters and concludes with spelling. This all-encompassing program will develop strong readers and writers now and in the future. | Bible Our objective during our Bible time is to give the children an overall view of who God is and what He has provided for us. We do this through Bible stories and learning the Catechism. We memorize many scripture verses and use them to make practical applications in their daily lives. By teaching the children the characteristics God would have us all to develop in our lives, we will hopefully benefit them now and as they mature into adulthood. | |
